Mayor | City of South Jordan
Dawn R. Ramsey is the first woman to be elected mayor of the city of South Jordan. Since she took office, South Jordan was the only city in Utah named one of the 10 fastest-growing cities in America by the 2020 U.S. Census. Dawn works closely with some of the largest companies in Utah, combining her public sector vision with their private sector expertise. She has served in top leadership roles on dozens of boards and commissions across Utah, including the Utah League of Cities and Towns, Wasatch Front Regional Council, Unified Economic Opportunity Commission, Economic Development Corporation of Utah and many more. She is grateful for the privilege of working with the state’s brightest and best on housing, transportation, water, economic development, education, parks, trails, amenities, the arts, unified sports, honoring veterans and military families, and helping to create the grand vision for Utah going forward.
What is an accomplishment you’re very proud of?
I feel profound gratitude for the many people who have been partners in all that has been accomplished throughout my tenure, but the thing I’m most proud of is my family. I chose to delay a professional career and push pause on my degree as we had our six children. Now that they are young adults, seeing who they have chosen to become makes my husband and I more proud than anything else we could ever do. They are truly wonderful people who love each other and serve those around them. I will keep working hard for the rest of my life, but our family will always be my greatest accomplishment.
What’s the next big goal or project in your professional journey?
My motto is, “Do what is right, not what is easy.” I have always believed in working hard and being prepared so that when opportunities present themselves, I’ll be ready. I love serving as mayor of South Jordan and am very proud of all we’ve accomplished. And there is so much more to come! Regardless of what any future roles may be, my goals remain the same. I want to help. I want to make a difference. I want to make life better for people. I’ve lived in Utah all my life and my mission is to plan with vision, serve with integrity and protect the quality of life we have here, even as we grow. We live in trying times, yet I believe the future is as bright as you make it. I will continue loving people, listening to them, and seeking opportunities to elevate, celebrate, educate and collaborate. We’re all in this together, my friends. To Main Page
