Salt Lake City — The Gateway<http://shopthegateway.com>, Utah’s premier community gathering, dining and entertainment destination, is partnering with KRCL Radio 90.9fm<https://krcl.org/> and THE BLOCKS<https://theblocksslc.com/> for an International Women’s Day Celebration on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 2-10 p.m. The festival will feature a day full of live music, live mural paintings of iconic “queens of music," vendors that support women-run business, panel discussions and wrapping the day with a free screening of RGB, sponsored by Bumble<https://bumble.com/>, held at Kiln Co-working.

Calling all women who rock: They are jointly commissioning artists for a special live painting mural project during the celebration that depicts “Queens of Music." Women artists are asked to pay homage to their favorite female musician in any of these categories: soul, country, hip-hop, rock & roll, pop, punk, funk, retro soul or other favorite genres. Artist proposals will be accepted thru Feb. 17. Eight muralists will be selected based on submissions to paint their chosen artist during the March 7 festival.

Paintings will be done on 8-foot cubes to be located at The Gateway and potentially around downtown Salt Lake to showcase their works to a wider audience. Artists are asked to submit an inspiration mood board, examples of previous artwork, a summary of their concept and why they selected their particular musician. Each artist will receive a $750 award for their live painting project. Full details here.<http://shopthegateway.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Women-Who-Rock-Mural.pdf>

“KRCL is such an important part of our community and their show ‘Women Who Rock’ inspired us, on the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, to celebrate women in music and beyond," says Jacklyn Briggs, marketing director for The Gateway. “We have curated a very unique gallery of art throughout our property and we can’t wait to add these amazing new pieces to the mix."

“We’re excited to partner with The Gateway, THE BLOCKS, Kiln, and Bumble to honor the many queens of music. And we’re thrilled that everyone has so graciously jumped in with the Queens of Music idea," says Tristin Tabish KRCL’s General Manager. “The artists’ interpretations of these women musicians through the mural project is an opportunity to celebrate and inspire. To see powerful women represented in art is the perfect way to commemorate International Women’s Day 2020."

“We embrace our responsibility to be a strong part of the cultural fabric of our artistic community. The International Women’s Day celebration is an exciting opportunity to partner with The Gateway and KRCL, said Lucas Goodrich, program director, THE BLOCKS. “This will be a unique opportunity for the community to experience live mural painting and watch the artwork come to life in real time. These works will join the many stellar artworks at The Gateway and will be included in The Blocks Public Art and Mural Trail App."
