Orem, UT — University Place is expecting over 10,000 attendees at this year’s Utah Brazilian Festival, happening on September 7th in The Orchard. This is the 20th annual Utah Brazilian Festival, and the sixth year it’s been at University Place.

“The Utah Brazilian festival is more than a party, it is a day of celebration of culture and community,” said Matilde Wosnjuk, Viva Brazil Cultural Center. “Festivals make cities better places to live, and we are so happy for all the support that the city of Orem and the University Place gives us.”

Other events happening include honoring and remembering the tragic events of September 11th, and a Mascot Mash-up between local high schools. All events are family friendly and free. The end of summer schedule includes:

  • Utah Brazilian Festival

September 7

12:00 – 7:00 p.m.

The festival will open at noon, with the Samba Parade starting at 1:00 p.m. There will be live music, dancing, Brazilian vendors and food including from Tucano’s Brazilian Grill

  • 9-11 Healing Field & Display

September 9-14

10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

In honor of those who died in the September 11th attacks, there will be a field of 2,977 flags representing each victim. There will also be a photo display of the tragedy curated to remind and educate onlookers. The flags will be located outside in The Orchard, and photo display will be located inside the shopping center.

  • Patriot Day Celebration

September 11

6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

The Orem Fire and Police Department will be about on The Orchard for a meet and greet. Come and meet the men and women who serve our community, hear about what they do, and look inside an ambulance, firetruck and more. There will also be treats and crafts, including cards to write a thank you note to those who serve.

  • University Place Tailgate Party

September 18

6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Come and watch Utah Valley University’s Greenman Group, and cheer and dance squads. You will have a chance to meet coaches and players from players from the soccer and basketball teams, and get a photo with Willy the Wolverine. The entire family is welcome to this event, and there will be treats and activities for the kids.

There will also be a Wolverine Mascot Mashup competition between local high schools for a grand prize of $2,000 and other prizes to go towards that school’s student body and athletics. Come support your local high schools!

  • Nordic Harvest Market

September 20

4:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Returning for the second year, the Nordic Harvest Market celebrates the culture of the Nordic countries. There will be cultural goods, foods available for purchase, and performances on the stage though the evening.

  • Native Nations Festival

September 28

3:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Come and learn about the culture and history of the Native Nations that call Utah home. There will be traditional teepees set up, stage performances, crafts, food, and history booths to educate and inform guests.
