Salt Lake City — The United States Chamber of Commerce, at its board meeting this week, awarded the Salt Lake Chamber with 5-Star Accreditation for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures, and positive impact on the community.

“Accredited chambers are organizations that hold themselves to the highest industry standards. They are recognized for their work to create and expand business opportunities in their communities” says Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, U.S. Chamber VP of Federation Relations and Institute for Organization Management. “Throughout the pandemic, these chambers continue to lead while maintaining transparent governance practices, sound financial controls, safe work environments, value in programming, and effective communications. They are commended for this great accomplishment.”

Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive Accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs, and technology. This extensive self-review can take six to nine months to complete.

“The Salt Lake Chamber is committed to excellence in serving our businesses and the community,” says Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. “This achievement and national recognition are a reflection of our staff and their professional commitment. Receiving the 5-Star Accreditation is a tremendous honor as the only chamber in Utah to achieve this status. We could not have done this without the support of our member businesses, from our efforts to lead out during the pandemic to maintaining the high standards of our traditional chamber work. The past year has brought out the best in our team and to see these efforts pay off with the renewed elite accreditation status is rewarding on so many levels.”

Local chambers are rated Accredited, 3-Stars, 4-Stars, or 5-Stars. State-wide chambers are recognized as either Accredited State Chamber or Accredited State Chamber with Distinction. The final determination is made by the Accrediting Board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members.

The US Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
