KAMAS, Utah — After winter’s deep freeze, a spring awakening has arrived at Utah’s Dendric Estate. As the trees show the first signs of life, the mountain cidery readies the rich soil for a prosperous inaugural growing season. “Buds have begun to break on our earliest varieties at Dendric Estate, so our priority this month is to nourish our soil,” said Dendric Estate Founder Brendan Coyle. “Everything we add to our grounds — mulch, fertilizer, and mineral sprays — is organic and carefully chosen to support biodiversity and the longevity of the soil for seasons to come.”
Mulching Practices & Soil Health
Dendric mixes organic matter into their mulch to rebuild soil vitality after the winter freeze. The top coat is refreshed with deciduous wood chips from local tree pruning operations, and an organic fertilizer blend will be applied in May to support early shoot development.
Nutrient Management & Sprays
Organic dormant oil spray was applied before bud break to smother overwintering pests and disease. Foliar nutrient sprays are used as buds swell, ensuring trees get immediate access to micronutrients.
Water & Irrigation Readiness
Thanks to the region’s abundant snowpack, local reservoirs will be at healthy levels this season. Dendric is preparing micro sprinkler lines to begin irrigation in early May, and the cidery’s first fertigation — organic fertilizer and irrigation — cycle will coincide with flower petal fall.
Bloom Timing & Frost Protection
An organic blend of bacterial cultures and mineral spray helps blossoms withstand cold snaps and protect plant cells from freezing. Row-by-row monitoring helps determine which blocks need frost protection.
Orchard Ecology & Pest Management
Dendric’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program emphasizes early detection and low intervention. By scouting for pest pressure manually, the cidery can avoid blanket sprays. Praying mantis egg sacs will be deployed in late April as beneficial insects in the orchard, and kestrels keep voles and gophers at bay among the rows.
Product Releases
The first Dendric Estate products will be released in Utah in June 2025.
