SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Council recently approved a $75,000 Economic Development Loan Fund (EDLF) loan for Policy Kings Brewery, a brewpub that will open at 79 W. 900 South.
Policy Kings Brewery, which initially opened in Cedar City, Utah, in 2018, specializes in providing a safe space for beer enthusiasts to gather, find community, and connect over great music, amazing events, and delicious craft beers.
“Policy Kings Brewery represents the kind of entrepreneurial spirit that makes Salt Lake City such an exciting place for small businesses,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “As Utah’s first Black-owned brewery, their move to Salt Lake City is an important milestone in our growing craft beer scene, and we couldn’t be happier to support their expansion.”
Working with the Department of Economic Development’s Business Development Division, Policy Kings Brewery received a $75,000 EDLF loan to assist with building renovations, leasehold improvements, machinery, equipment, furniture, fixtures, and working capital for Utah’s first Black-owned brewery’s move from Cedar City to Salt Lake City’s Central 9th neighborhood.
“Policy Kings Brewery is a great addition to the Central 9th neighborhood, bringing craft, culture and community to our city,” said Darin Mano, Salt Lake City Council Member for District 5. “Their move to Salt Lake City strengthens the neighborhood, and I look forward to seeing them thrive in their new home.”
“Our department is committed to supporting businesses that contribute to the economic and cultural fabric of Salt Lake City,” said Lorena Riffo-Jenson, Director of Salt Lake City’s Department of Economic Development. “Policy Kings Brewery is not just a brewery; it’s a gathering place where people can connect, and we’re excited to help them make this transition.”
The EDLF aims to stimulate business development and expansion, create employment opportunities, encourage private investment, promote economic development, and enhance neighborhood vitality and commercial enterprise in Salt Lake City by making loans available to businesses. The program’s overarching goal is to invest in viable businesses that produce strong economic returns and provide positive social and environmental impacts. Learn more here.
