Salt Lake County, UT — Salt Lake County has purchased a 257,777 square foot office complex parcel—located at 799 Coliseum Way in Midvale, Utah—which will eventually serve as its government center. The purchase price for the property is $52 million.

Over the past few years, Salt Lake County has assessed the growing deferred maintenance costs of its current 40-year-old office complex on 2100 South in Salt Lake City. Those costs were assessed to exceed $225 million to maintain and renovate the existing center.

A commercial real estate market that was advantageous to purchasers provided a unique opportunity for the County. After a thorough due-diligence process and continued assessment of the best use of taxpayer dollars, Salt Lake County determined the public would be best served by purchasing the eight-year-old complex, which will provide the public with a state-of-the-art amenity that is centrally located within the valley. Additionally, the design of the complex and its main building will provide greater engagement for county residents.

“Purchasing this complex saves taxpayers money while also improving customer service and public access,” said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. “The proximity to I-15, a TRAX station, and trails for active transportation aided in our decision to make this purchase.”

The move to the new complex will likely take place in 2026, after assessing methods and needs of employees and the public, and then modifying the new space to meet those needs.

“I am so excited for this opportunity for our residents. In addition to being an efficient use of taxpayer dollars, it moves county services to the more accessible heart of the valley,” Council Chair Laurie Stringham shared. “With this new space, we are creating a one-stop-shop where residents can conduct all their county business at one location instead of going from office to office. The new complex is modern and unique, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone in Salt Lake County.”

Over the next year, the County will enter a review process regarding the next phase of the site of the current government center.
