Millcreek, UT — Executives of Granite Credit Union and Rancho Markets partnered to bring the first in-store fully Spanish-speaking branch to Rancho Market stores. Granite’s CEO Mark Young said, “We have worked closely with the owners of Rancho Market to create a financial resource for the Spanish-speaking community who shop at their stores. We are excited about our new Rose Park location that will offer ITIN lending and Simple Spend Accounts to support the community.” Eli Madrigal, founder and CEO of Rancho Markets stated, “It’s nice to work with a credit union that is willing to help our Hispanic community by making financial services more affordable and convenient for their families.”

In 2023, Granite Credit Union received the Juntos Avanzamos designation. This signaled Granite’s commitment to and collaboration with the Hispanic community and local businesses in the area. Granite’s field of membership also expanded in 2023 which allows Granite to expand into other Rancho Market locations including a second location planned for Weber County.

Juan Pascua, Executive Director of the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce said, “This focus on our Spanish-speaking community members is another important step for Salt Lake City in inclusivity and diversity outreach here in Utah and certainly a reason to celebrate.”

Granite Credit Union’s Rose Park Rancho branch located inside Rancho Market at 140 North 900 West in Salt Lake will have an opening ribbon cutting celebration on May 30, 2024 at 10 a.m. to welcome the Spanish-speaking community to this important financial resource.

Granite Credit Union began in 1935 as Granite Teachers Credit Union and was originally organized as a state-chartered credit union. The field of membership in the credit union was open to all teachers and administrative staff of Granite School District. Since being formed in 1935, the credit union has gone through three name changes and one adjustment to our charter. From 1935 to 1974, the name was Granite Teachers Credit Union, and the field of membership was teachers and administrative staff within the school district. In 1974, the name was changed to Granite District Credit Union and the field of membership opened to include students and families as well. After several mergers with other smaller credit unions and a merger with Murray School District Credit Union, the name was simplified to Granite Credit Union and the field of membership opened to include anyone who lived in Salt Lake County (Granite Credit Union, 2022). After an aggressive campaign conducted by the Bankers’ Association targeting state-chartered credit unions, the decision was made to convert to a federal charter which became official on July 26, 2004, and the name was changed to Granite Federal Credit Union (Granite Credit Union, 2022).
