Ogden— Bank of Utah customers can now use Zelle to quickly and safely make a digital payment from their own bank account to a friend’s account using just an email address or US mobile number. Today, Bank of Utah announced that Zelle went live and is available to its customers through the bank’s mobile banking app and online banking bill pay. Zelle makes digital payments a fast, safe and easy alternative to cash and checks.

“The popularity of person-to-person payment continues to grow, and we are pleased to be able to partner with Zelle, which is available to more than 140 million consumers through their financial institution’s mobile app,” said Douglas L. DeFries, Bank of Utah president. “In total, customers of more than 7,000 financial institutions are using Zelle through the Zelle app or their mobile banking app. It’s a snap to get started too.”

Bank of Utah customers can go to https://www.bankofutah.com/personal/services-benefits/zelle and follow the easy steps to enroll and send money to friends and family members with Zelle. Zelle is not intended to be used for purchasing goods at the point of sale.

“To send money with Zelle, just enter the recipient’s enrolled email address or US mobile phone number,” added DeFries. “The money will be sent directly to their bank account, typically within minutes[1]Zelle will even help you calculate and split the cost of a lunch bill with your friends. It’s very slick.”

When both parties are already enrolled with Zelle, funds are typically available within minutes. Consumers who are not enrolled will receive a payment notification or a request for payment and can enroll through their financial institution’s mobile app or by downloading the Zelle app if their financial institution does not participate.
