Lehi, UT – Mountain Point Medical Center, a Steward Family Hospital, today announced that it has begun using a new surgical system to perform robotics-assisted knee revision surgeries to improve patient outcomes. The new state-of-the-art CORITM Surgical System will allow for increased precision and improved accuracy in knee replacement procedures while also decreasing costs for Steward patients. The procedures will be performed by Dr. Kevin Sagers, an orthopedic surgeon at MPMC, who is among a handful of surgeons in the United States and the only one in Utah to be certified in robotics-assisted knee revision surgeries.
“I’m excited to be leveraging this new technology at Mountain Point Medical Center,” said Dr. Kevin Sagers. “The CORITM Surgical System provides greater accuracy and better outcomes, meaning patients can recover faster and return to normalcy sooner. We’re proud to continue to innovate at MPMC to ensure our patients receive the best care possible every single day.”
The CORITM Surgical System does not require the preoperative CT imaging that other platforms use, helping lower cost and decrease radiation for patients. The platform also allows surgeons to use 3D-modeling to develop unique surgical plans that are customized to patients’ anatomies. Doing so allows surgeons to perform procedures more accurately than traditional knee replacement surgeries and helps patients keep more of their natural bone and ligaments intact.
In addition to performing robotics-assisted primary (or first-time) knee replacements, the CORI Surgical System is also the only system currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be used to perform revision – or “re-do” – knee replacements. In cases where primary knee replacements need to be revised, the ability to generate a 3D-model of the knee with sub-millimeter precision helps surgeons recreate more balanced and secure knees for patients.
“The introduction of this cutting-edge system is the latest example of Mountain Point Medical Center’s commitment to bringing the highest quality patient care to our community,” said Kent Loosle, President of Mountain Point Medical Center. “Improving outcomes and lowering costs for patients continues to be at the center of our mission and we’re thrilled to be able to leverage Dr. Sagers’ unique expertise as an orthopedic surgeon to do just that with this exciting new FDA-approved technology.”
