Ogden—Levolor and Kirsch are now proud members of the Hunter Douglas family of brands, effective July 1, 2016.

The acquisition brings together two distinctly different yet complementary brands. The Hunter Douglas brand is the leader in the premium custom window coverings segment, distributed predominantly through the specialty dealer channel. The Levolor brand is a leader in the everyday style market segment, distributed primarily through the home center channel.

According to Ron Kass, President and CEO of Hunter Douglas, North America, “Levolor is an exciting addition to the Hunter Douglas portfolio and allows us to supplement our longstanding position in the specialty dealer channel with a strengthened position in the home center channel. Together these businesses will allow us to better service the unique needs of each of these distribution channels and consumer market segments.”

Levolor was founded in 1914 in Hoboken, N.J., by H.K Lorentzen. In 1982, Levolor opened a Manufacturing plant in Ogden that at its peak time employed more than 600 employees and painted enough aluminum to wrap the earth every 15 days! Today Levolor in Ogden continues paints Aluminum utilizing a nine-story-tall oven to cure the paint and which can be seen for miles around. Levolor in Ogden also manufactures the honeycomb or Accordia fabric used in modern window shades. For 34 years, Levolor has been a key employer and its building is a landmark for Ogden and surrounding areas.

Hunter Douglas was founded in 1919 by Henry Sonnenberg and is now the world market leader in window coverings and a major manufacturer of architectural products. Hunter Douglas already has a major presence in Utah with a manufacturing facility just west of Salt Lake International Airport, and a subsidiary, 3Form Global, in Salt Lake City.
