President, Director, Shareholder, Attorney | Parr Brown Gee & Loveless, P.C.
Laura Griffin Kennedy has worked at Parr Brown Gee & Loveless for more than a decade to establish and grow the firm’s corporate insurance group, often representing sophisticated clients involved in disputes with their insurance companies. Her practice regularly requires her to find creative solutions in complex disputes, and she seeks to obtain a deep understanding of her client’s business operations so she can best apply the nuanced complexities of various types of insurance policies and applicable law. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Laura was the chair of the firm’s recruiting committee. She organized the Parr Brown Women Lawyers group, which holds monthly meetings and seeks to create a forum for discussion for junior women at the firm. On April 1, Laura became the president of Parr Brown, which has approximately 90 corporate and litigation attorneys and approximately 40 staff members.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Every day, I have the opportunity to tackle new challenges while being surrounded by fantastic clients and colleagues. I love helping clients solve problems that at first seem unsolvable. I am fortunate to be able to assist my clients while working in a collegial and collaborative environment alongside my law partners, who are some of the smartest and best people I know.
What community projects or charity work are you involved in, and why are they important to you?
I had the privilege of helping establish the nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization Take Heart International and have served as a member of its board of directors for approximately 13 years. Take Heart has worked to bring accessible education to rural areas of Zambia, including through the construction of two permanent elementary school buildings; by sponsoring students in secondary schools, teachers’ colleges, nursing colleges and the University of Zambia; and by providing solar panels for electricity, clean drinking water and school supplies. It also supports a school in Uganda that hundreds of children attend each year. I believe education can improve not only an individual’s life, but also the life of their family and community.
