Salt Lake City—The University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business has inducted Katharine B. Garff into its esteemed Hall of Fame. The honor recognizes Garff’s contributions to the automotive industry and her tireless efforts to impact the lives of thousands of employees and community members throughout her career.
An accomplished alumna of the University of Utah, Garff graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics/Education. Working side by side with her late husband, Robert, she helped build one of the most successful automobile dealership groups in the United States. Together, they have left an indelible mark on the industry, furthering the success of countless employees in eight states and fostering a legacy of innovation, excellence, and customer service.
Throughout her career, Garff has been a trailblazer, breaking barriers and setting new standards for education, civic, and business leaders. She has been instrumental in driving the growth and prosperity of Garff Enterprises, which now boasts more than 65 auto dealerships across eight states and has consistently ranked among the top auto dealership groups in the country, earning accolades for exceptional customer service and employee satisfaction.
In addition, Garff has been an active community leader, giving back through various philanthropic endeavors. She has consistently demonstrated her commitment to education, serving on boards of several educational institutions and championing initiatives that promote access to quality education for all.
The David Eccles School of Business established its Hall of Fame in 1988 to honor alumni and business leaders who have made significant contributions to the school, their industry, and their communities.
“Kathi Garff embodies the spirit of the David Eccles School of Business and represents the best of what our alumni can achieve," said Taylor Randall, University of Utah president. “When I first met Kathi as we planned to build a new business school complex, her primary concern focused on how the people would work and interact in the building. I was very impressed about Kathi’s passion for the development of the individual.”
To be inducted, honorees must demonstrate exceptional leadership, vision, and integrity, and embody the values the university holds dear.
“Kathi Garff’s remarkable accomplishments align perfectly with our qualifications,” said Rachel Hayes, dean of the David Eccles School of Business. “Her unwavering dedication to excellence in business and her commitment to improving the lives of others make her an exceptional addition to our Hall of Fame.”
As Katharine Garff joins the distinguished ranks of the David Eccles School of Business Hall of Fame, her inspiring journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of education and the boundless potential of those who dare to dream big.
