The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced today the appointment of Susan Bray-Hall, M.D., FACP, as Chief Medical Officer (CMO), VA Rocky Mountain Network (Veterans Integrated Service Network [VISN] 19).
She is responsible for overseeing all clinical programs, operations, and services in VISN 19, a system with 18,000 employees that serves nearly 750,000 eligible Veterans at eight health care systems, and more than 100 additional sites of care.
“Dr. Bray-Hall brings a tremendous clinical background and health care leadership to our executive team,” said Sunaina Kumar-Giebel, Director of the VA Rocky Mountain Network. “We are privileged to have Dr. Bray-Hall’s clinical expertise, dedication to Veterans, and familiarity with our network. She will certainly have a positive impact on the Veterans we are honored to serve, our employees, and our volunteers.
Dr. Bray-Hall will serve as a member of the senior management team, working daily with other executives to offer a wide range of comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical services in a highly complex health care delivery system. Services include primary and specialty care, nursing home care, mental health and rehabilitation services, and domiciliary care. VISN 19 health care systems have many academic affiliations with medical schools and universities in Denver/Aurora, Oklahoma City, and Salt Lake City.
Prior to joining VISN 19, Dr. Bray-Hall served as the Interim CMO for VISN 19 since November 2023, and as chief of staff for the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System from February 2017 until June 2024.
Dr. Bray-Hall is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Care. Additionally, she is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma, College of Medicine. Dr. Bray-Hall received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Colorado and her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biochemistry (Cum Laude) from the University of Washington. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), and has secured more than $4 million in grant funding in the areas of geriatrics, palliative, and Home Based Primary Care.
