Brandi Madill Mechling has always been an eager learner and started her college education at 16 years old. Today, she has been a team member of Savage for over 25 years and has served in virtually every role of the company as it has grown, including commercial, information systems, shared services and operations. She is a leading architect of Savage’s S7 Delivery System: a roadmap of standards, metrics and tools used to help ensure operational excellence. Brandi also led a turnaround of Savage’s transaction accounting teams, an initiative that required a redefining of the company’s processes and built the foundation for how it operates today. She is also the central figure in the successful implementation of Savage’s new enterprise resource planning and human capital management systems. Brandi also contributes her gifts to Savage’s charitable initiatives with the United Way of Salt Lake.

What advice would you give to young women looking to succeed in your field?

Take action! Often, young women in business are afraid to speak up or try something new. Your own self-doubt will hold you back more than anything else. If you see an opportunity that you want to be a part of or a career path that interests you, go for it and put all your passion into it. Even if it doesn’t work out the way you expect, sometimes failure is the best learning experience.

How do you view your role as a woman in your sector or industry?

Because I work in a predominantly male industry, I view my role as not only being successful at my job but also bringing gender diversity and a fresh perspective to the table. This includes speaking up in discussions and decisions, actively reaching out to mentor other women and building a network of supportive leaders willing to challenge the status quo.  To Main Page
