What advice do you have for those just starting their careers in HR?
Connect with other HR professionals. The best thing you can do in your career is learn about best practices directly from experienced HR professionals. Adjacent to that: read, read, read as much as you can to learn outside of your college education or SHRM training. There are countless newsletters you can subscribe to, articles on SHRM’s website and articles on LinkedIn.
How would you like to see HR and talent acquisition progress?
Let’s start by challenging the way we think about people. Human resources, people operations and talent acquisition are supposed to be the human beings behind the face of the organization. Be a human being with your employees and your applicants. Take a step back and remove some of the cultural expectations we have pre-programmed into our brains about resumes, out-of-work issues and employee engagement, and think about how we can change the lives of our employees.
