Materials innovator 3form is proud to announce the appointment of Lauren V. Smith as Director of Sustainability. In this role, Smith will lead company-wide initiatives, partnering with teams across 3form, 3form Elements, and LightArt to integrate sustainable practices in every facet of the business.

Smith brings to 3form a wealth of experience in implementing sustainability strategies at the corporate level. Most recently, she served as the Corporate Sustainability Manager at Columbia Sportswear Company. There, she led the advancement of sustainability reporting, the expansion of a traceability program, and the inclusion of sustainable attributes in products. Prior to Columbia, Smith was at General Motors, where she was integral in pursuing the company’s zero waste aspirations as the Sustainable Materials Program Manager.

“We are thrilled to welcome Lauren to the 3form team to push us forward on our path to zero waste,” said Wynn Clayton, CEO of 3form. “Her extensive expertise and dedication to achieving measurable results will be invaluable as we hold ourselves accountable to making a net-positive impact on people and the environment with responsibly made products.”

In her new role, Smith will create climate targets and the tactics needed to achieve them, capitalizing on 3form’s momentum in environmental stewardship. For more than 15 years, the company has invested in sustainability measures. The establishment of their award-winning Align platform, which distills the company’s commitments to align their business practices with the needs of people and the planet, and their attainment of the Just label, a nutrition label for organizations dedicated to the betterment and sustainability of people, product, and the planet, are indicative of their progress. The company continues to pioneer sustainable materials, introducing products like the Flek Pure Collection and 100% Recycled Textures line, which are produced using 100% recycled content. Smith will continue the company’s trajectory, identifying opportunities to bolster the company’s circularity strategy and advance product optimization and transparency.

“3form is uniquely positioned to catalyze positive change in the architecture and design industry,” said Smith. “We have the power to influence our vendors on one side and our customers on the other side to join us in making environmentally conscious decisions, and that ripple effect will culminate in a greener collective future. I am excited to join the 3form team in their journey towards circular design and manufacturing.”

Smith holds two master’s degrees from the University of Michigan: a Master of Science in environmental policy and planning and a Master of Public Health in infectious disease and water quality. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental health, global climate change, and issues in sustainability from the University of Michigan.
