Fastest Growing Companies Recognized for Success

by Candace Little

22 November 2009—

Warren Buffet said, “In the business world, the rear view mirror is always clearer than the windshield.”

Each business recognized at the Utah Business Fast 50 awards recognition and luncheon on Thursday, Aug. 27 has taken risks and grown despite the imperfect vision Buffet describes. The event was an opportunity for the 50 fastest growing and revenue-generating companies to take a minute, look at their rearview mirrors and celebrate a clear view of their accomplishments.

Derek Miller, acting executive director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, spoke to those gathered. He said Utah has been ranked as the No. 1 most dynamic economy in the nation and that Utah has seen 50 percent growth since 2007.  He attributes this success to its values and work ethic.

“While there are things going on around us that we may question, Miller said, “the state of Utah still believes in a free market, personal accountability and decision making. It is not a coincidence that Utah is doing as well as it is.”

Companies recognized attributed their success, among other things, a lot of time, hard work, brilliant ideas, quality people and good decisions.

Steady growth was present in all of the recipients; success, but there were many decisions leading to the growth, opportunities to seize and also opportunities to pass on.

Fast 50 Recipient, Property Solutions’ CEO David Bateman said,  “One of our biggest coups was establishing exclusive agreements with major accounting software vendors in the multi-housing industry.  We’re also pretty proud of the fact that we’ve been able to sustain significant growth over the past few years without significant investment capital.”

President of Simplicity Group, Matthew F. Schneck said that while strong growth invites new opportunity, they quickly realized that not all new opportunities were necessarily good opportunities. “We learned this the hard way with projects that never reached their full potential,” said Schneck. “Through careful evaluation and difficult decision making, we were able to refocus our attention on core competencies that have ultimately led to consistent and strong growth.”

More information about the Fast 50 list and each award recipient will be included in September’s issue of Utah Business.
