Salt Lake City – Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, announced today that Zions Bank is one of 15 recipients of the 2014 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the department’s highest recognition given to employers for support of National Guard and reserve employees. This year’s recipients were selected from 2,864 nominations received from guardsmen and reservists for going beyond what the federal law requires to support their military employees.
"Guardsmen and Reservists across the nation rely on strong bonds with their civilian employers," said Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. "I commend these extraordinary employers for their unwavering commitment to service members and their families."
Zions Bank was nominated by a member of the Army National Guard. Zions developed a professional development program offering internships and training specifically to service members and veterans, which has launched civilian careers throughout the state. The Zions Bank Military Relations Group maintains contact with deployed employees and their families, providing home repairs, lawn maintenance, holiday gifts, and financial assistance. The bank also launched a military employee forum to facilitate networking opportunities for service members.
Zions Bank and the other award recipients will be honored at a ceremony in the Pentagon Sept. 26.
