WSU Students Perform Well in FBLA-PBL Leadership Conference

Press Release

July 14, 2014

Ogden — A Weber State University student earned first place in the nation in the category of Future Business Educator at the recent Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) leadership conference.

More than 1,800 students competed in a variety of categories at the annual event held this year in Nashville, Tenn., June 24-27. In addition to the first-place finish, several other WSU students placed in the top 10 in their categories.

Lynda Seneff, a business education composite teaching major from Clinton, Utah, took first place in the Future Business Educator event. Patrick Beck, an electrical engineering major from Kaysville, Utah, and Calee Christensen, a computer science major from Roy, Utah, took second place in the Network Design event. Beck also took second place in the Cyber Security event.

“I am thrilled to have won first place at nationals in Future Business Educator because it is something I have worked hard at in all my business and education classes here at WSU,” Seneff said. “As a future educator, I think it is important to participate in competition outside the classroom. It is motivating and has increased my teaching skills. The challenge gave me confidence in my chosen field and will help me to encourage my own students to participate in professional organizations and competitions.”

FBLA-PBL is the largest and oldest student business organization in the country. It is designed to sharpen students’ core business skills, expand their networks and participate in more than 55 business-related competitive events. Beside the competitive events, the conference offered educational workshops and motivational speakers.

The following students received national recognition at the PBL Awards of Excellence on June 27 in the following competitive events:
