December 1, 2008
Looking for a way to escape the holiday crowds or just need a break from gift shopping? Consider taking a weekend retreat at one of Utah’s top resorts. From Park City to St. George, Utah’s resorts offer holiday weekend packages sure to put you in the holiday mood. Whether looking for a cozy getaway or a quick adventure, the Beehive State has plenty to offer to spice up the season.
Washington School Inn, Park City
Positioned in the heart of Park City, Washington School Inn offers a fun and enjoyable experience for people who love to ski, snowboard or simply kick their feet up in one of the state’s most beautiful cities.
Located 30 minutes from Salt Lake City and positioned only two blocks from the Town Ski Lift, this inn is in the perfect spot for those looking for a snow-filled adventure. And during the holiday season, all guests are given two free ski passes. Beyond being located on “the greatest snow on earth,” the inn is only a 10 minute walk to more than 50 restaurants and a short drive away from the Park City Historical Museum. And, the inn’s experienced staff is always willing to offer guests tips on ways to make their stay a unique personal experience.
The 23-year-old inn, which is located in a schoolhouse from 1889, charms guests with its historic atmosphere. “It is much more engaging than your average hotel stay,” says Jean Carlan, manager of the Washington School Inn. “Our staff knows your name and what you like for breakfast; there’s camaraderie between guests. And, hors d’ou-evres are served in front of the fireplace.”
Sorrell River Ranch Resort & Spa, Moab
Overlooking the majestic view of red rock buttes and the Colorado River, the Sorrell River Ranch Resort and Spa in Moab provides a tranquil retreat in Utah’s majestic desert.
“It’s very quiet here,” says Tamara John, front desk supervisor for Sorrell River. “The landscape is unique and is beautiful all year round, even in the winter.”
The resort features horseback riding, a fitness center, tennis courts and a basketball pavilion to keep guests smiling throughout their stay. It’s in-house restaurant, Sorrell River Grill, tempts guests’ palates featuring American food with a European twist on the menu.
Guests looking for a bit of adventure are in luck; the resort is next to Canyon Lands National Park and Arches National Park. The resort’s concierge is also on-hand to help plan unique activities, including scenic flights, tour guide hikes and Hummer and Jeep tours of the area.
Pelican Hills Resort, St. George
For golf lovers or those who need a bit of sunshine, the Pelican Hills Resort in St. George might be the perfect holiday season getaway. The resort is nestled on 44-acres of Green Valley next to the Sunbrook Golf Course.
Pelican Hills is also unique because it allows guests to customize the activities for their vacation. “We will go out on our end and give people the options they want,” says Brittany Allred, reservation manager at Pelican Hills. “We understand the importance of letting people and businesses customize their trips because everyone’s needs are different.”
Pelican Hills offers two games of golf at the Sunbrook Golf Course included in the price of a two-night stay package. Other amenities include a tennis court, swimming pool with fountains, hot tub and a basketball court. A discount for Getaway Spa and Salon is included, as well as a corporate retreat package and an employee appreciation getaway package. Also, the resort is close to Zion National Park and several other golf courses.
