Sorenson Genomics announced that it has received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) based on the results of a recent onsite inspection. CAP is an association composed exclusively of board-certified pathologists and is a leader in laboratory quality assurance.
Sorenson Genomics is the parent company of Identigene, a provider of direct-access DNA testing services, and Sorenson Forensics, a leading provider of advanced forensic DNA testing for state crime laboratories and law enforcement agencies. The Sorenson Genomics laboratories specialize in molecular diagnostics, testing for sexually transmitted diseases, parentage testing, forensic DNA analysis and contract research.
The laboratory was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the service being provided. During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, as well as the laboratory's equipment, facilities, safety program and record, in addition to the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.
“We are dedicated to adhering to the highest standards of testing in our laboratory, and this latest accreditation from CAP validates those efforts,” said Doug Fogg, chief operating officer of Sorenson Genomics. “In bringing together the most qualified people in an innovative environment that cultivates a culture of quality through operational efficiencies, we have built a world-class laboratory to help resolve challenging questions using molecular biology.”
Sorenson Genomics has validated a wide array of laboratory methodologies and maintains the industry’s highest degree of accreditation and standards. In addition to this new CAP accreditation, the laboratory holds accreditations from the AABB (formerly the American Association of Blood Banks) for parentage analysis, the Laboratory Accreditation Bureau (L-A-B) for general laboratory standards of ISO/IEC17025:2005, and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). Sorenson Genomics laboratories also participate in regular proficiency testing to assess laboratory training and competency.
