Snowbird — Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort opened its new mountain coaster last Saturday, and plans to hold a grand opening this weekend, Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, with a special lodging package that includes unlimited Mountain Coaster rides.
“Riding the Mountain Coaster is a thrilling adventure, and is a wonderful addition to our mix of summer activities,” said Dave Fields, vice president of resort operations.
The new ride whisks riders up 160 vertical feet, then gravity takes over and carries the cart down the mountain, through trees and around two horizontal loops before ending at the base of Peruvian Express chairlift. Each cart can hold two passengers. Each cart has hand brakes, and the speed is controlled by driver. The carts travel 3,120 linear feet.
The Mountain Coaster is located at the base of Peruvian Express chairlift. Tickets are $15 per person per ride, or $12 per ride to upgrade from an all day activities pass. Riders must be 54” tall to ride alone, or lap riders between 38” and 53” tall can ride for $7.
The Mountain Coaster is open daily 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. through Labor Day, then Saturdays and Sundays only from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., conditions permitting.
