Salt Lake Regional Medical Center has teamed up with Dart Container Corporation and their CARE (Cups Are REcyclable) program to recycle foam cups imprinted with the number six. The effort will divert more than 170,000 pieces of foam from area landfills each year.
The fully integrated foam #6 recycling system will launch on May 1, 2012. Sixteen collection devices will be placed throughout the hospital, and educational and instructional materials will be made available to hospital staff and patients. (Foam #6 is also commonly known as Styrofoam, a registered trade mark of The Dow Chemical Company.)
For more information on Dart, the CARE program, or the foam recycling process, visit http://www.dart.biz/web/environ.nsf/pages/care.html or call 800-248-5960.
