Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute Awards KBR Subsidiary

Press Release

August 15, 2012

KBR (NYSE: KBR) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Roberts & Schaefer, was recognized by the Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute (RMCMI) for 100 years of distinguished service to the Institute and the Rocky Mountain coal mining industry.

Roberts & Schaefer was a founding member of RMCMI and has provided continuous support to many of its programs, which are dedicated to the promotion of western coal through education.

Roberts & Schaefer serves as a Charter Patron Sponsor of RMCMI’s Scholarship Program, which awards 16 scholarships to students entering the coal industry each year. The company is also an active participant on several of the Institute’s committees, including the Safety Committee and Scholarship Committee.

“We are honored to receive the Distinguished Service award from RMCMI,” said Mark Read, president, KBR Minerals. “Our support of the Institute’s scholarship and educational outreach programs provides us with a recruiting avenue for some of the best and brightest new engineers and science graduates in the mining industry. We are proud to support their career development and their entry into the industry.”

RMCMI President, Denise Dragoo, noted that the last Distinguished Service award was presented in 1987, making this year’s presentation an exceptional occasion for the Institute.

Read explained that the company’s history of business with members of RMCMI has led to the establishment of extraordinary relationships with past, present and future clients.

Roberts & Schaefer was founded in 1903 and has been providing engineering and construction services to the coal industry globally ever since. In December 2010 Roberts & Schaefer was acquired by KBR, who has also been serving the global mining and energy sector since 1908.

Roberts & Schaefer leads the bulk materials handling and mineral processing industry through experience, innovation and dedication. From mine to final use and all points in between, Roberts & Schaefer materials handling and processing systems are a stalwart industry standard for production, efficiency and durability.

KBR is a global engineering, construction, and services company supporting the energy, hydrocarbon, government services, minerals, civil infrastructure, power, industrial, and commercial markets.
