KATHRYN BRUSSARD joined Red Butte Garden at the University of Utah as director of development. For the past several years, Brussard served as director of development and marketing at Catholic Community Services.
MediConnect Global appointed JACK VINES, a former clandestine service operations officer with the CIA, to the position of chief compliance & IT security officer. Vines will oversee the day-to-day security of clients’ data and provide high-end, international security level protection for the company’s most important intellectual property.
Shareholder JAMES S. JARDINE re-joined Ray Quinney & Nebeker’s litigation section after a three-year sabbatical. Prior to his leave of absence, Jardine served as managing partner of the firm.
Lt. Gov. Greg Bell selected CODY STEWART to serve as his new chief of staff. Stewart will advise the lieutenant governor on policy issues and help promote the administration’s initiatives on energy and public lands, among others.
Gov. Gary R. Herbert appointed PHIL CLINGER to the University of Utah board of trustees; WILFORD CLYDE to the state board of regents; CONSTANCE WHITE to the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control commission; SUSAN DEVEY to the Martin Luther King Commission; RYAN M. HARRIS and ELIZABETH A. HRUBY-MILLS to the Third District Court; and ALAN MATHESON, JR. to serve as his senior environmental advisor.
JOHN PATON replaced Dean Singleton, publisher of The Park Record and The Salt Lake Tribune, as MediaNews Group’s CEO. MediaNews Group owns newspapers in 18 states, reaching a monthly readership of 57 million.
Aviacode hired LANE MONSON as chief operating officer. Monson brings 20-plus years of domestic and international experience in the business technology sector. Monson previously served as global SVP at Infor Global Solutions.
Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah hired SCOTT THOMPSON as media relations manager. Thompson was previously with the Utah Department of Transportation, where he served as public involvement manager. He has more than 20 years of experience working in communication roles for state government, nonprofit organizations and television broadcasting.

Vivint promoted JIM NYE to vice president of product management. Nye most recently served as the company’s vice president of business development. In his new position, Nye will continue to manage business partnerships related to product development, as well as new product selection and supply-chain management.
AtTask, a provider of on-demand project and portfolio management software, appointed ERIC MORGAN as its new president and CEO. Morgan is the former CEO of AdvancedMD.
