Fast Company magazine has ranked Western Governors University number 28 on its 2013 list of The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies. Fast Company describes the list as featuring “the businesses whose innovations are having the greatest impacts across their industries and our culture as a whole.”
Fast Company notes that WGU, an online university based in Salt Lake City, leads the nation in master’s degree in math education and offers accredited, affordable bachelor’s and master’s programs in teaching, healthcare (including nursing), IT and business. It highlights the fact that WGU’s programs are developed with input from employers and emphasizes the ways WGU uses innovative technologies to improve learning while keeping tuition low.
“And while public university tuition was rising by about 5% a year, WGU's has held steady at $6,000 since 2008,” the Fast Company article reads.
WGU was listed alongside corporate giants such as Nike, Google, Apple and Amazon, as well as newer, rising companies such as Square and Angry Birds developer Rovio.
