BSD Medical Corporation (NASDAQ:BSDM) (the “Company” or “BSD”) announced that the Company’s new Microwave Ablation System (MicroThermX) products were showcased at the Company’s exhibition booth at the 37th annual scientific meeting of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), which was held March 24 to 29, 2012 in San Francisco. The SIR conference is the world’s largest and most comprehensive meeting for minimally invasive interventional radiology/oncology products. More than 5,000 physicians, scientists, and health professionals from around the world attended the meeting.
During the conference, BSD introduced the new MicroThermX tabletop stand configuration, the T2. The T2 gives the customer the option of a light weight, tabletop system that has the same advanced features as the MicroThermX cart configuration.
BSD also announced the Company’s upcoming introduction of the short tip antenna, which was designed to provide more spherical ablations for smaller tumors, in order to increase the range of tumors the clinician can treat using the MicroThermX.
Damien E. Dupuy, MD, professor of Diagnostic Imaging at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, director of Tumor Ablation at Rhode Island Hospital, a fellow of the American College of Radiology, and a member of the BSD Board of Directors, gave a presentation on microwave ablation of lung cancer. An award winning presentation by Dr. Gerald D. Dodd, University of Colorado School of Medicine, presented the results of a study of therapeutic ablations delivered by microwave, using the MicroThermX, compared to ablations delivered using radiofrequency (RF). The presentation demonstrated the advantages of microwave ablation, as compared to RF ablation.
"The SIR meeting was used to increase the profile of the Company’s microwave ablation products and to further develop the Company’s association with key opinion leaders,” stated Sam Maravich, vice president, sales and marketing. "We were pleased at the significant increase in the interest shown by the attendees in the MicroThermX and in the Company’s new products demonstrated during the conference.”
