North Logan – UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY’s SPACE DYNAMICS LABORATORY formed an agreement with NASA to develop a high-resolution optical encoder that will be used to test projects before they go into space.
Ogden – The MOOSE VILLAGE HOUSING project, built by R&O CONSTRUCTION, achieved LEED platinum certification.
Ogden – WANGSGARD’S MARKET reopened after being remodeled. The remodel included adding an in-store restaurant and a new soup and salad bar.
Hill Air Force Base – The Air Force announced it will consolidate all maintenance work for the F-22 Raptor and bring 200 new high-paying jobs to HILL AIR FORCE BASE.
Brigham City – BRIGHAM CITY received a $1 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to assist in construction of a hotel, which is part of a larger project that is planned to include a conference center and restaurant.
Centerville – INTERNATIONAL ARMORING CORPORATION, a company that designs and manufactures armored passenger vehicles, celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Layton – The YOUNG AUTOMOTIVE GROUP purchased PETE PAGE AUTO SALES AND CAR WASH. The office structure will remain and be remodeled to house OZ MARKETING, Young Automotive Group’s in-house marketing agency.
SkyWest Plans to Purchase Additional Airplanes
St. George – SKYWEST, INC. entered into an agreement with Embraer for the purchase of 100 new E175 dual-class regional jet aircraft. Of the 100 aircraft, 40 are considered firm deliveries and the remaining 60 aircraft are considered conditional until SkyWest enters into capacity purchase agreements with other major airlines to operate the aircraft. Deliveries for the 40 firm aircraft are anticipated to begin in the second quarter of 2014 and continue through mid 2015.
The aircraft will be configured in 76 seats in dual-class. The agreement also includes the option for an additional 100 E175 aircraft and would be valued at $8.3 billion if all 200 aircraft are ordered. The initial 40 aircraft will be operated by SkyWest under a new agreement with United Airlines, Inc.
“We are pleased with the agreement between Embraer and SkyWest that represents the culmination of a long and creative process for the acquisition and long-term management of the initial 40 firm aircraft to be operated for United,” says Bradford R. Rich, SkyWest president. “The selection of the E-Jet was based on the customer acceptance, fuel efficiency and attractive operating costs that are offered by this equipment type.”
Ivins – Community members and arts supporters broke ground on the new KAYENTA CENTER FOR THE ARTS, a 9,400-square-foot facility to be located in the Coyote Gulch Art Village.
Cedar City – The CEDAR CITY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE held its eighth Commerce Business Expo at Main Street Park.
St. George – BANK OF AMERICAN FORK opened a new mortgage division branch in the Sunland Professional Park.
Richfield – ROCKY MOUNTAIN POWER began construction on the 160-mile Sigurd to Red Butte transmission line to serve customers throughout six western states.
Price – MOUNTAIN AMERICA CREDIT UNION opened its first branch in Carbon County, at 494 E. Main Street in Price. The branch is Mountain America’s 76th.
