Bountiful - SAHARA began construction on a new school for children with profound autism in Orem. The CLEAR HORIZONS ACADEMY will be a 30,400-square-foot facility with 11 classrooms for children with autism aged 18 months through 12 years.
Bountiful - HOBBYTOWN USA recently opened at 416 W. 500 South. The local franchise for the 170-plus store is owned and operated by Chris and Stasha Cope. Merchandise ranges from RC cars, planes and helicopters to science and educational toys, models, board games and more.
Ogden - FIRST DATA CORPORATION and TRANSPORTATION CLEARING HOUSE (TCH) plan to create a joint venture company. First Data will contribute its EFS Transportation Services business to the new venture to be merged with TCH. Both companies provide unique services that, when combined, will be a leading payment card provider to the transportation industry.
Ogden - The OGDEN/WEBER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE held the Top of Utah Business Expo at the Golden Spike Event Center. The business symposium and expo delivered concrete tips and strategies in an interactive, entertaining business format for those wanting to build their brand both professionally and personally.
Ogden - WEBER STATE UNIVERSITY’s Department of Automotive Technology and the Technician Training and Education Network (T-TEN) program recently passed the T-TEN Validation. The T-TEN program is a two-year associate degree program with an emphasis in Toyota service technology.
Ogden - JDHGROUP celebrated its 10th anniversary. JDHgroup is a comprehensive design agency that has extensive experience with traditional exhibits, museums, corporate environments and retail spaces.

Davis County - WELLS FARGO BANK installed a new generation of non-envelope ATMs. No envelopes are required for deposits, and customers can stack and deposit checks and cash together at the same time.
Bountiful - WOODMEAD MEDICAL CLINIC opened on Highway 89 near the boundary of North Salt Lake City and Bountiful. Owned by Van Staden and Dr. Bradley A. Urie, the clinic offers a variety of procedures.
Layton - CHICK-FIL-A opened a new location in Layton. This year marks 30 years of business in Utah for the chain, with the state’s first location opening in 1981 in Ogden’s Newgate Mall and its first stand-alone opening January 2003 in Sandy.
Comfort Inn & Suites Breaks Ground
Bountiful - SAHARA began construction on a new Comfort Inn & Suites in Lake Point, Utah. The three-story hotel will be 41,000-square-feet with 69 rooms. Completion is scheduled for April 2012.
The hotel is owned by JMP HOTELS and developed by NOVASOURCE, located in Salt Lake City. The NovaSource team has completed more than 1,000 retail development projects and acquisitions in more than 100 metropolitan markets. HOTEL MANAGER’S GROUP is managing the hotel and local architect AE URBIA designed the facility.
“This is a much-needed hotel in Tooele County, especially for accommodation needs during events at Miller Motorsports Park,” says Clegg Mabey, senior vice president of Sahara, Inc. “The hotel will be operational for the beginning of the 2012 race season at MMP.”
Based in Davis County since 1985, Sahara provides professional design/build and construction management services utilizing a unique client-oriented, collaborative management approach for the design and construction of commercial, industrial, institutional, retail and residential projects throughout the Western United States.
Hershey’s Track and Field Playground Awarded to Ogden City
Ogden - OGDEN CITY RECREATION, in collaboration with the OGDEN YOUTH TRACK CLUB, was awarded a new play space sponsored by Hershey’s Track and Field Games (The Hershey Company), Nike and Summit Playgrounds.
The new “Playtop Street” playground will be installed at the 4th Street Ball Park Complex located at 502 Wall Avenue. The playtop area contains 12 satellites (underground lights) that are set in the surface materials. Touching each satellite with a hand or foot activates a series of colors and sounds prompting the user to participate in activity games. Children and adults will be both mentally and physically challenged while playing fun games individually or as a group.
The overall play area will also include a slide, spinning bucket, long jump area, funnel ball, comet (merry-go-round) and will ultimately be surrounded by a walking/running track. The safe surface of the playground and track, with the exception of the playtop section, will be made of “Nike Grind” recycled shoe material.
